In Joshua chapter 1, God told Moses to be strong and courageous 3 times. This admonition is very appropriate for us right now, considering what is going on in the world around us. However, God also said some other things in this chapter which are very relevant for us. Verses 8 and 9 in the New Living Translation say, “Study this book of instruction continually.
Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command – be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”. God told Joshua to meditate on the word (or worry on the word). Meditation is when you find a Bible verse that really speaks to you and you keep thinking about it and rehearsing it. That’s something we can be doing while we are in isolation.
God also said to not be afraid and these words appear over and over in the Bible. One of my favourites is Luke 8:50 (NKJV), “do no be afraid, only believe”. This was one of my “go to” verses when I had breast cancer. We all have worrisome thoughts but we need to take them captive (2 Cor 10:5) and replace them with the word. That will send the devil away with his tail between his legs!
