In chapter 11 of Hebrews we read about the faith giants of old; verse 10 says, “Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.” (NLT). In that same chapter in verse 16, we read, “God has prepared a city for them.” This city is obviously referring to the New Jerusalem.
So, what do we know about the New Jerusalem? Quite a bit, if you read Chapter 21 and 22 of Revelation. To summarize, it will be a huge, beautiful city, filled with the glory of God and where we will see Jesus face to face. A place where there will be no sorrow, crying, pain or curse.
The Bible also tells us that we should be prepared for the return of Jesus, which also happens at the end times. We should be anticipating it and ready for it because we don’t know exactly when it will take place (1Thes. 5:6, NLT).
Luke 12:35-40 speaks about this and verse 40 says, “you must be ready all the time, for the son of man will come when least expected.” (NLT). Matthew 25:1-13 has a similar admonition. The Bible also tells us how we should live our lives in preparation for the second coming. 2 Peter 3:11,12 says, “what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along.” (NLT). We need to be living godly lives and according to this verse, if we do we will actually be hastening the return of Jesus.
Get excited, we will spend eternity living in the most beautiful place imaginable – quite beyond our comprehension!
