The Strength Of Three
If you look at any poles that are carrying the above ground phone cable, you will see another cable. The only function of that cable is to provide support to the phone cable. If the phone cable is left unsupported, its own weight will damage the connections from which the line to the houses or offices are run.Phone cables are not structurally sound; thus, any tension on the line will cause the wires to break, disrupting phone service and most times results in a portion of the cable having to be replaced. The support cable circumvents that by taking the external force, protecting the phone line.
As believers we need Jesus, particularly in marriage, as the central cord in all areas of our lives. When the storms of life come at the marriage, He is the one that undergirds it.As the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 4: 12: “And a threefold cord is not quickly broken” (). He makes the marriage substantially stronger allowing the couple to withstand whatever trial may come.
Let’s visualize a triangle. Let D be the wife (bottom left of the triangle) , F the husband (bottom right of the triangle) and E represents God (the tip of the triangle). As D and F move closer to E, they move closer to each other.
Psalms 127: 1: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” () Solomon, in his wisdom, discovered the truth that we need God in every sphere of our lives.
Anyone in business knows that a partnership will take the business further than a sole ownership. This principle is based on another scripture Matthew 18: 19-20: “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Is three important? For sure it is!We serve a Triune God, Man is a tri-part being (spirt, soul and body).A three-part cord is indicative of us needing one another. When one is weak, others will be strong for you; but more importantly; “God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in time of need” (Ps 46: 1).
